How do I Control my Facebook Places Privacy Settings?

Last week Facebook made their official leap into the “geolocation” space by introducing a new service called Facebook Places. Their headfirst geo-dive will initially be launched in the United States and rolled out worldwide in the very near future. The service exists as an iphone application, and is also available at touch.facebook.com.

The most interesting aspect of Facebook’s strategy is the fact that Yelp, Gowalla and Foursquare (all the major location-based check-in and review services) were on stage presenting as Facebook Places launch partners. Take a peek at this introductory video.

Of course, the first question you might ask yourself is, how does this affect my privacy? If you’re wondering how to control your Privacy Settings, just follow this step-by-step guide.

1 – Select “Account” (top right corner)
2 – Click on “Privacy Settings”
3 – Select “Customize Settings”
4 – You will see “Places I check in to” (near the bottom, above Block Lists) and select the appropriate target (everyone, friends only, etc.)
5 – Check off if you wish to “Include me in ‘People Here Now’ after I check in”

That’s all! Hope it helped… Feel free to shoot me a message if you want more assistance or have a specific question.
